Child’s Diabetes Risk Influenced by Dad’s Weight, Diet: Study

New research suggests a link between a child’s risk of Type 2diabetes and the weight and the amount of fat in the father’s diet at the time of conception, according to an article on DLife.

A Child’s Waist Size May Be the Best Forecaster of Adult Risk for Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes

A child’s waist circumference may be the best predictor of the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease later in life‚ according to a study of 2‚188 Australians who were followed for an average 20 years from childhood.

Breast-Feeding for Less Than 1 Month Linked to Increased Risk for Type 2 Diabetes

Breast–feeding for less than one month has been linked to an increased risk for type 2 diabetes in a study reported in the American Journal of Medicine.

Kidney Damage Heightens Mortality Risk

Minor kidney damage in people with type 1 diabetes dramatically increases the chances of premature death, a new study finds.

Diabetics presenting early and asymptomatic kidney damage, as manifested by trace amounts of protein in the urine, were six times likelier to die than the general population, according to the study, summarized at ScienceDaily.com. Type 2 Diabetes And Insulin Resistance Linked To Higher Alzheimer’s Disease Risk

Individuals with Type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease because they are more likely to develop plaques in the brain associated with Azheimer’s, says a new report published in the medical journal Neurology , issued August 25th, 2010. Insulin resistance is one stage before diabetes, when insulin becomes less effective in reducing blood sugar levels.
