Immune System Genes Show Links to Type 1 Diabetes

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 8 (HealthDay News) — The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is still unknown, but international researchers have found a link between the blood sugar disorder and a network of immune system genes.

‘Diabetes Dude’ Headed to ‘Today Show’

Members of the “Flamingo Flock” diabetes-awareness campaign are planning to attend the Thursday airing of NBC’s “Today Show.

The campaign was begun this year by the family of 9-year-old type 1-diabetes sufferer Noah Brokmeier, aka “the Diabetes Dude.” It distributes blue plastic flamingos carrying letters urging recipients to send photos with the lawn ornament to Brokmeier’s informational website.

Data From Meta-Analysis Show Victoza(R) Achieved Improved Blood Sugar Control In African-Americans With Type 2 Diabetes

Novo Nordisk (NYSE: NVO) presented results recently demonstrating that once-daily Victoza(R)(liraglutide [rDNA] injection) achieved significantly greater improvements in blood sugar control compared to placebo among African-American patients with type 2 diabetes.
